Tattoos?!

Hello there everyone,

Today I think it would be fun to talk about something that I really enjoy, tattoos. I love tattoos for many reasons but I think the two main reasons I like them so much is because they're pretty (most of the time!) and that they mean something to the person who has them. I'm glad that tatoos are less likely to be considered taboo now-a-days and I really like that a lot of work environments don't force people to hide any tattoos that one may have, unless they're offensive. I, personally, have 5 tattoos that all mean something near and dear to my heart. The first tattoo I ever got was of my son's footprints from the day he was born, near my heart on my chest. Obviously, most people could understand why that would have meaning to me but I also have other tattoos that may not have such obvious meanings. I think that a lot of people who have tattoos are in somewhat of the same "boat" with tattoos that I am, some have obvious meanings while others don't. I really enjoy learning the meaning behind why a person got a certain tattoo, I think it's so much fun. I also believe that although a lot of people have tattoos with meaning, there are a lot of people who get tattoos for what I consider the "wrong" reason, which would be they just get a tattoo because they saw it in a book and they think it looks cool. I think if you're going to put something on your body that will be there for basically the rest of your life, it should be because it has a meaning to you not just because you thought it looked cool at the time.

Now, I want to do something a little bit unorthodox. I'm very curious as to what you (my reader) thinks about tattoos. Do you think they're dumb even if they have meaning? Do you have any tattoos? Do you want any tattoos? Do you think that tattoos should be hidden in the workplace even if they aren't offensive? You don't have to answer any of these questions if you don't want to, but I just think it would be fun to learn what my peers think. So, thank you in advance if you comment with an answer- I sincerely appreciate it!

AE #1 - Blogging?!

Hello there everyone,

Today I would like to take some time to talk about blogs. For the most part I would like to focus on corporate blogs because, well, I never really knew that they existed until recently. I looked at a few major corporation blogs such as Google, Whole Foods, Cisco, and Ebay. Going in to this I was really unsure as to what I would find on these blogs, what exactly does a company need a blog for? I thought, for the most part, I would find some useless information for a consumer and mostly information pertaining to, I don't know, investors? Well, let me tell you right off the bat, I was wrong!!! There is a lot of information on the blogs that is very interesting to consumers like myself. It may not be coupons that I can use or something of the like, but there was some fun stuff on these blogs.

One of my favorite blogs that I looked at was the Google blog (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/). Although this blog was not necessarily colorful and immediately bursting with energy, the content of the blog ranged from topics that I'm not really interested in to things that I was so amazed by. One of the blog entries that I read was called, "Exploring the Grand Canyon on Google Maps" and it showed a video of how the Google employees get the panoramic views of the Grand Canyon to put on Google Maps for anyone to view. The blog also had articles that I wasn't very interested in and ended up skimming over, but isn't that going to happen with any blog? I mean, unless the blog you're writing is directed towards 1 specific topic or audience, I think there will always be a few entries that some people will want to read and others will not.

The blog that I looked at that I liked the least was Whole Foods' blog (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/blog/whole-story/). Right when I clicked on the link I thought to myself, "Oh wow, this is pretty cool looking." However, when I started reading the blog entries on the site, I quickly lost interest. For the most part I saw pictures of food and ads for things that are on sale this week at the store. While this information would be very useful for people who shop at Whole Foods, I do not and therefore I felt like I should just be done looking at the blog. I forced myself to continue looking around the blog to see if there was anything I might like but, I was unsuccessful in my search for anything interesting.

Alright, so here is the whole deal for me with corporate blogs. If you are going to make a blog for a corporation, have information on there for people who shop at your store, website, whatever it may be, but also add articles on your site that could get attention from people who may not even know what your corporation is. Make your articles interesting! As a consumer, I don't want to simply see a huge list of recipes and ads, I want some other information....something that interests me and keeps my attention.

Introduction

Hello there everyone,

      Since this is my first post I suppose I should introduce myself to you. My name is Elizabeth, but you are more than welcome to call me Libby. I am 23 years old and have lived in Arizona my whole life, although I was born in Flagstaff and moved to Phoenix around age 5. The most important thing you should know about me is that I am a mother of a usually hyper 5 year old son named Sean. Secondly, it would be ridiculous for me to describe myself to you without mentioning that I love Mathematics. Although I am only currently in Calculus 1, I know that Math is something I want to work with every day of my life. Strangely, I never enjoyed Math until I began college, and now I can't seem to get enough of it. As you can now probably guess, Mathematics is my major at GCC. I hope to continue majoring in it (and learning about it) until I can't anymore.
